Elections 2006 ...
At last, the much hyped elections in the state are over and the results are out too. The electorate of Tamilnadu have always been decisive in their verdict, and this time was no exception. The important facts are that the state is going to have a coalition government for the first time and oppposition is going to have strong presence.
Actor Vijaykanth's DMDK mustered around 9% of the total votes polled. This is a dream start for the DMDK. The Congress, on the other hand too got 9%, but the alliance translated those votes into a handsome number of seats. But, nothing to cheer for the Congress as the alliance made the difference, and had it gone alone in the polls, it would not have won even a single seat.
Talking about the two dravidian parties. The ADMK lost out because of the anti-incumbency factor, the DMK won because of its grand alliance. But the DMK winning just around 90+ seats is something that should worry the think-tank. The ruling party in Tamilnadu has always enjoyed a majority of atleast 150 seats on its own. But this time around its different with the DMK depending on the Congress for support.
Lets hope that this election turns out to be a TURNING POINT in the history of Tamilnadu Politics.
Long Live Democracy.
